I love the work that Ilamasqua are doing for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation. Sophie's murder was so shocking and terrible, it really stayed with me. I'm 100% behind everything Illamasqua are doing and it's such a great way to keep her memory alive. It was such an honour to meet her lovely mum at the Bizarre Ball, I couldn't imagine anything worse than the pain of losing your beautiful child for no reason at all. Looking different or being different is NEVER a reason, or a justification for violence and abuse. Anyone from smaller towns will know that daily abuse is a part of many people's lives if you look a little different whether you're a goth, a different race or if you're gay. I remember it well myself unfortunately and friends of mine still get shouted at to this day - even now in their twenties when culturally everyone should have moved on. It's just a shame Sophie was denied the right to be everything she could have been - she would have been 24 this week.
As far as I'm concerned, being different should be celebrated in every which way. I'm working my goth this week in homage and wearing my S.O.P.H.I.E eye pencil! xxx
