There was a lovely scene on Mad Men (Series 3, Episode 6) where Don Draper and Roger Stirling are sat in a barber shop talking about male grooming habits (among other scandalous things.) Roger is getting a manicure and tells this elaborate (and quite possibly untrue) story about his father who used to get regular manicures, blah, blah, blah. The whole ritual was just so different to the modern-day quick shave in the morning and some aftershave.
